Tyler Oka is a justice consultant and advocate from the Kainai First Nation. He is the current Vice Chair of the Blood Tribe Police Commission; his time on the commission has given him extensive experience in First Nation police governance—oversight, policy development, accountability frameworks, community engagement, and capacity building—and he holds a Bachelor of Professional Arts in Justice Studies, which complements his practical governance work.
Through his consulting practice and other work, he coordinates gang-prevention and community-based safety initiatives and leads community-driven justice projects that centre cultural knowledge and local decision-making. He has an extensive background in policing governance and corrections, having served as a correctional officer and a senior probation officer.
Oka partners with First Nation governance and organizations to advance community safety and enhance self-determination in justice programming through community-led, culturally informed approaches.
