Crisis Communications – Managing the Message in Critical Moments
In high-pressure situations, how you communicate can define public trust and organizational credibility. Join Cherri Greeno, Director of Corporate Affairs at the Waterloo Regional Police Service, as she shares practical strategies for managing messaging during crises. Drawing on her award-winning journalism background and leadership in national and international communications networks, Cherri will provide real-world insights on media relations, rapid response, and maintaining clarity and control when it matters most.
Cherri Greeno began her career as a journalist after graduating the Master of Arts (Journalism)
degree program at the University of Western Ontario in 1999. During her career she travelled
throughout the world covering a variety of stories and was the recipient of two National
Newspaper Awards for excellence in journalism. In 2016, she joined the Waterloo Regional
Police Service (WRPS) and is currently the Service’s Director of Corporate Affairs. She also
serves as Co-Chair for the Ontario Corporate Communications Network (CCN), Vice-Chair of
the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Strategic Communications Network, and
is the Canadian representative for the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP)
Public Information Officers committee.
Cherri has been awarded the Catherine Martin Award of Excellence in Media Relations from the
Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and a provincial Heroes Beyond the Badge
award on behalf of WRPS. She was also recently named Mentor of the Year Award for her work
with students at Conestoga College.
Along with her work for WRPS, Cherri also acts as Principal for Tourniquet Communications
where she teaches on-line and in-person training sessions on strategic communications, crisis
communications, and media relations.
Most recently, Cherri had her first Children’s Book – Mismatched Martha – published by New-
York Based Austin Macaulay Publishers. She currently resides in Kitchener with her husband,
four daughters, and the cutest puppy ever.
