Dr. Sarah Charman is Professor of Criminology and Director of the Policing Academic Centre of Excellence at the University of Portsmouth. She is also Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Law, Crime and Justice and Senior Associate Fellow at the Police Foundation. She has researched and published widely on the sociology of policing and the policing organization, most notably on policing cultures, police leadership, police recruits and police retention. Sarah has advised and worked with a number of government bodies and local and national policing organizations and is a regular contributor to both the national UK press and policing practitioner publications.
Dr. Jemma Tyson is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and the Policing Research Group lead at the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of Portsmouth. Her PhD focused on the policing of disablist hate crime, engaging with both service users and service providers. She has worked with several local and national police advisory groups and panels and has extensive research experience of conducting research related to policing. Specifically, she has conducted research on police retention and attrition, diversity and inclusion, and the policing of hate crime. Her current research project focuses on the experiences of disabled police officers in England and Wales.
