The Board of Police Commissioners is the governing body of the Regina Police Service and the vital link between the community and its police. The Board provides civilian governance and formal oversight of police services as a statutory body under The Police Act, 1990.
The Board is responsible for selecting, hiring and evaluating the performance of the Chief of Police. The Board is also the overarching employer of the personnel of the police service. However, it is the Chief of Police who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the police service.
The Board is also responsible for:
Providing general direction, policy and priorities for the Regina Police Service, in consultation with the Chief of Police;
Negotiating the collective bargaining agreements with the Regina Police Association and the Senior Officers Association; and
Submitting the annual Regina Police Service budget to City Council for approval.
There are seven members of the Board of Police Commissioners; the Mayor, two members of City Council and four citizens at large, one of whom must be of Indigenous descent.
The Board of Police Commissioners extends its gratitude and support to all employees of the Regina Police Service for their professionalism and dedication to “Working Together to Keep Regina Safe”.
